March 15, 2009 - North Alabama Daylily Society
Our second meeting of the year will be held on Sunday, March 29, in the Boeing Education Classroom (adjacent to the gift shop) at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, at 2:00 P.M.
We will be particularly honored to welcome Dan Bachman from the “Valley of the Daylilies” garden in Lebanon, Ohio as our featured speaker. His programs are highly acclaimed, featuring his many talents as a hybridizer of high quality daylilies, mixed with his delightful humor. We were fortunate to get Dan to come to Huntsville due to his friendship with Mary Terrell. They both got the daylily fever when they joined the Greater Cincinnati Daylily-Hosta Society in 1983.
Dan’s garden in Ohio features more than 3000 cultivars, containing one of the largest collections of spider and unusual form daylilies in the country. His hybridizing efforts have focused on both spider and unusual form daylilies, having introduced nearly 75 excellent cultivars. He has a very special spot in his garden for antique and heirloom daylilies, one of the few gardens in the country with such a large collection of these historic daylilies. His garden was highlighted as one of the tour gardens at the AHS 2005 Regional convention in Cincinnati. His presentation will feature his latest creations including a gorgeous cultivar he has named “Bo Diddley” as well as photographs of many of his planned future introductions.
Please make your plans today to attend this special meeting. You will not be disappointed! Dan plans to bring several plants to auction, plus a couple of door prizes. If you would really like to stir up your appetite for this meeting just Google “Dan Bachman Daylilies” and view his outstanding website, a sight for winter sore eyes !!
If you missed our last snow delayed meeting you really missed a treat. Jesse and Terah George presented their usual superb program. Don’t miss another wonderful treat!
